Marketing in today’s marketplace requires businesses to have a holistic approach to media saturation.  It is normal for companies from small to large to have a variety of communication, advertising and marketing tools/media in their arsenal, sometimes you want a sniper, sometimes a cluster bomb depending on your target audience, just ask the US government!  In order to make the most of all of these marketing investments, you need to be consistent and deliberate about connecting your messaging and campaigns.  At a minimum you should be actively looking to connect color copies of your printed material to your online content.  The following tips will help you create a systematic way to tell your customers how to connect with you online via your printed materials and web content.

1. Add an Icon or Badge. You do not have to create your own iconography to connect your customers to your online content.  Today there are a multitude of free icon images available for download.  You can insert these images with a link or web address on your printed material and instantly have seamless recognition from your customers that you have an online presence and they will know how to connect with you using it.

2. Copy Social Media Page Web Address. If you will be posting online versions of your printed material, taking the time to create a direct link from your social media icon to your social media sites is very easy.  Take a deep breath, you can do this!  First you will go to your social media page and copy the web address in the address bar.

Go to your social media page and copy the web address in the address bar.

3. Go To Insert Hyperlink and Paste Social Media Page Web Address. Highlight your social media icon.  In your document publishing software you will find an “add hyperlink” tab under the edit section of the main menu bar.  Select this tab and follow the instructions for pasting the social media address you just copied into the hyperlink space.  This will create a direct hyperlink from your icon to your social media site, when viewers click on the icon on your online document.  Voila!  You’re a hyperlink Jedi Master!

Adding a hyperlink allows you to connect your social media site directly to your chosen social media icon on your documents.

4. Paste Social Media Page Web Address Under Icon or Badge Image. Obviously, your viewers will not be able to use the hyperlinked icon when reading your document in printed form.  To ensure they can access your social media site, add the social media page web address directly under the icon your have inserted into your document.

Add your social media page address under your social media icon on your printed document.
