On every sales call you end up leaving something tangible behind, hopefully not your laptop. Sometimes it is as simple as a business card and other times it is a full product catalogue or sales presentation. Whatever the leave behind it, how you market yourself and your services on it will make a difference in how many future sales you end up getting. Follow these four easy tips to make the most of your sales leave behinds.
1. Make Sure It Tells People How to Find You
The easiest thing you can do and the most forgotten, is to make sure very piece of printed material you give potential customers, has your phone, email and website information on it. These color copies and bits of paper, that may only be a handout or note paper during your sales pitch today, are the only tangible items your potential clients have to refer back to a month from now, when they are trying to remember your name for an interested colleague. How are you going to get a second date if you don’t leave your phone number?
Include your contact information on every piece of collateral you develop.
2. Include Opportunity to Connect
Sales is about connections and relationships. Make sure your printed leave behind materials has information on how your customers can connect with you online, in your social networks, we’re talking linkedin here, not myspace… no one wants to see THOSE pictures you posted! These connection points are a great for building rapport with future clients.
Add your Social Networking information on your collateral.
3. Maintain Your Branding
Your product or company has a brand. As such you should have a logo, a look and feel and tone of voice that represents you and is easily identifiable with you. This lends credibility to your message and creates a professional appearance for your customers and appearance is everything, admit it, you judge a book by its cover! Once you have these things, maintain them throughout your leave behinds. Leave behinds are not the place to skimp on your costs. As mentioned, these are the things people will have in front of them long after you are gone. Make sure they represent you, the way you want to be represented; do you really want to be remembered for the squeezy stress ball with your company name on it?
Brand your leave behinds with your logo and imaging. Make sure it is easy to tell it was left behind by you.
4. Include Your Own Messaging
Include any marketing messaging you have created like tag lines or frequently used sayings in your leave behinds. If there is a particularly memorable story, antidote, joke or reference in your sales presentation, then make sure it has a prominent place in your collateral… unless of course it’s a dirty joke. Participants will read it later and remember how you inspired them… or horrified them.
Add your favorite joke or presentation tag line on your leave behinds to give them that personal touch.
